A New Kind of Computer, A New Tool for Humanity
This web site is served by the IdeaFarm (tm) Piggyback Distributed Operating System. IP-DOS (tm) is the tool that will enable IdeaFarm (tm) Associates to "Connect People Wholesomely".
IP-DOS (tm) is used by IdeaFarm (tm) Associates to administer their "Come, Eat With Us!" village gatherings and to publicize gathering dates, times, and locations. You may use IP-DOS (tm) to find out the status of IdeaFarm (tm) Associates village formation in your zip code. If a village has not yet formed in your zip code, you can use IP-DOS (tm) to work with the organizer to host your own village formation dinners. If there is already an active village in your zip code, you can use IP-DOS (tm) to declare a "conditional reservation", which makes known your intention to attend a particular dinner. You can also view the tally of conditional reservations declared by others in your zip code. The IdeaFarm (tm) Village Reservation System is part of the public section of IP-DOS (tm). Most features of IP-DOS (tm) are accessible only to people who have a login account and have logged in.
IdeaFarm (tm) Piggyback Distributed Operating System <> IP-DOS (tm) is a single global entity computationally distributed over many computers. Each of these computers hosts one or more IP-DOS (tm) "homes". Each IP-DOS (tm) home has a "Door" and a "Panic Door". Humans and automata can open these doors to obtain services. Both doors can be opened in several ways:
Most services are available at the Door. Failure recovery, diagnostic, and field testing services are available at the Panic Door. The software craftwork mission for the Door is to develop a broad, powerful, and coherent suite of services and tools. The craftwork mission for the Panic Door is to develop a suite of failure recovery and diagnostic services that is rock solid and powerful enough to enable IdeaFarm (tm) Operations technicians to work around and then analyze system failures when the normal Doors to IP-DOS (tm) are locked down. Lockdowns occur whenever the system is being attacked, a security hole has been identified, or some other software defect has been identified that warrants a lockdown. Normal users would rarely have a reason to open a Panic Door, but the Panic Doors play a critical role in ensuring day to day reliability and defending the system against attack.
Each new login account holder is immediately granted access to the system at the lowest security level. Every account holder receives a "key" cd by territorial mail every 64 days. With the key cd in his posession, the account holder can access IP-DOS (tm) at higher security levels. Keys are shipped only to the verified address associated with the accountholder's balance at the IdeaFarm (tm) City Central Bank.
